Recently was surfing for some inspiration, and really got inspired by the artists work on depthcore.com

I was watching the first episode of So You Think You Can Dance, season 5, where there is Tiffany, who was born with severe spinal problems which have stunted her growth and coordination. She only has three vertebrae in her spine instead of seven. The doctors thought she would die as a baby, but she is now 23 years old.

She tells us how much it hurts when people laugh at her, and that she loves to prove everyone wrong when she’s told she can’t do something. She credits her mom with helping her become a fighter. She is absolutely beautiful when she dances.

One of the judges, Mary calls her a beautiful inspiration. While the executive producer, Nigel says that her bravery is stunning and think that people at home who sit on their butts and think they can’t do something should be inspired by her.

I guess I’m one of those who sit at home thinking I can’t do something, and I am inspired to pursue what I love to do, even if it’s not the best, I wanna work as hard as Tiffany

I’m inspired by what is around me every single day of the year. I am inspired by the physical built (and natural) environment. I’m inspired by the beauty which nature provides, but then how humans have added to this in rich layers of architecture and planning.

To this end I am about to start a blog in my small town on exactly that, the built environment of my city. I have been looking for a multi-author blog which is as flexible as this. I have the authors (all coming from varied backgrounds), they have the topics, we have the audience, all we need now is a wordpress template to do this.

When passionate people talk about their surroundings and how things can be improved and tweaked, and the audience engages, the results can be stunning. I’m hoping for the very same thing to happen in my city. I want a dialogue going on between the designers, architects, town planners etc with the public of my city, I want this to be the platform which empowers people and gives them the confidence to talk about their city. This can only be a good thing.

Just as the Milau Viaduct is just another bridge, and Centre Georges Pompidou is just another library/museum I want the people of this city to bring out the very best in our planners, designers and architects. This could be that tool.

But at least my quest for a solid and well designed wordpress template is at an end.

I’ve really been inspired lately by the 1930s WPA posters. Dynamic and very few colors used, making them more impressive.

Most recently, been inspired by working out in the garden. Lots of lovely colours at this stage of spring, so more colourful work ahead.

I watched Garden State again the other day. It’s nice to watch a subtle film about people’s lives and interactions instead of a lot of the tripe that comes out of Hollywood. It also inspired me to make the most of the people around me (who in and of themselves are a source of inspiration).

I am inspired by the continual creation of nature. As I watch the forest fires rage outside my living room window on the top of the mountain I am impressed with the constant natural overturning of natures beauty. Once green trees light up the night giving way to charcoal silhouettes and an ash sea all the while preparing for the tidal wave of green and rainbow life to take its place in the coming years.

I was inspired by my wifes friend who when she was on holiday in Zimbabwe went to a prison with 500 pairs of underwear and sanitary pads because she heard that not only were the women and children starving to death, they did not have those basics as well. The experience was distressing as you can imagine but she has vowed to help them as much as she can.
Last weekend I moved one of blogs http://livingzimbabwe.com from Blogger to Wordpress (I am from Zimbabwe too) and I have been neglecting the blog for a while but after hearing her story I want to get back into it and write about hers and other experiences and most of all raise a bit of money via the blog to help people back home. It may not be thousands of dollars but the little that I do give will help someone.
